Kate Middleton has shared her profound and "very emotional" bond with nature, describing it as a source of solace in a "very busy world". In Kensington Palace's newly released video for the Scouts, where she serves as joint president alongside Chief Scout Dwayne Fields, Kate is seen engaging with young Scouts during an excursion to the Lake District.

Captured last month, the footage features the Princess of Wales strolling along Lake Windermere's edge and interacting with Scouts aged 10 to 15 from Cumbria and Greater Manchester as they strive to earn their Naturalist Badge. During the video, Kate, donning hiking boots and a bakerboy cap, is filmed amidst stunning landscapes conversing with the Chief Scout about the significance of the natural environment.

She offers a deeply personal reflection on what nature represents to her, confessing: "I find it a very spiritual and very intense emotional reconnection I suppose, these environments."

She further explains her connection to nature, stating: "Not everyone has that same relationship perhaps with nature, but it is so therefore meaningful for me as a place to balance and find a sort of sense of peace and reconnection in what is otherwise a very busy world."

Kate, who is currently in remission from cancer, has been a vocal proponent of the therapeutic effects of nature, having previously disclosed how it became a refuge for her family following her diagnosis and throughout her chemotherapy treatments, the Mirror reports.

Princess Kate and Mr Fields discuss the significance of exposing young people to nature to help build their confidence and life skills.

He explains to Kate: "I think it's really important for young people to have access to nature because it's a space where they can push themselves, they can challenge themselves, they learn leadership skills, spend time making friends and those life-long really great memories that we all hold onto."

Mr Fields adds: "And I think if we can do that, we'll build up a generation who is passionate about our natural spaces and passionate about protecting them as well."

In the video, Kate, wearing a roll-neck sweater, jacket, matching trousers, and hiking boots, joins the Scouts on their excursion.

She is seen crouched down, assisting them in mapping out their routes around Windermere with maps, commenting: "It's so beautiful because so many of the walks here you can see Lake Windermere because it is huge isn't it?"

Kate also inquires: "Look how hilly it is in here. Have you done any of these big mountains?".

Additionally, she is photographed laughing and chatting with the Scouts as they enjoy ice cream at a lakeside picnic table.

Since 2020, Kate has been joint president of the Scouts, and promoting well-being through nature is a cause she deeply cares about.

She says: "What's so fantastic about the Scouts is that the same foundations that have always been there and still despite how different the modern day world is now, actually it still resonates with so many young people - and it is making such a massive difference to them."

Mr Fields adds: "When you come out into a natural environment, it helps you understand your self that much more. "We really belong in nature. We're in tune with it and I think we need to come back to it because there is definitely something about being in nature that's connected to our wellbeing."

This video marks Kate's first meeting with the newly appointed Chief Scout. Born in Jamaica, Mr Fields moved to the UK at the age of six and grew up in inner-city London without access to nature. He credits the Scouts with making a significant positive impact on his life.

He said: "In an increasingly complex world digital technology has its place, but the few hours we spent in the hills without screens was magical: we are often at our best in the outdoors, and I want more young people to experience outdoor adventures like this for themselves."

Kate expressed her views on the great outdoors, stating: "Outdoor adventures can build the vital skills young people need for the rest of their lives, they hugely benefit health and wellbeing, and boost friendships.

"And with the help of more adult volunteers, we hope to get more young people out into nature in the future."

According to Kensington Palace, Kate's visit to the Lake District, which wasn't publicly announced, took place in March.

Earlier this year, Kate shared that she and her family consider nature as their refuge in the past year in a message on Mother's Day.

Kate, who received a cancer diagnosis in March last year, shared the message with a short video that featured some of the UK's breathtaking environments, such as woodlands, beaches, and the ocean.

Her message read: "Over the past year, nature has been our sanctuary. This Mother's Day, let us celebrate Mother Nature and recognise how our bond with the natural world can help not only nurture our inner selves, but remind us too of the role we play within the rich tapestry of life."
